Like many other Marriott Bonvoy lifetime elite members, I just received some luggage tags in the mail. I figured I’d take a look at them in this post, since the whole packaging and presentation is a bit nicer than I was expecting.

In this post:

Several weeks ago, Marriott Bonvoy emailed lifetime elite members, and invited them to visit the “Lifetime Journey” website. This website contained all kinds of interesting stats about your Marriott activity, including how many points you’ve earned and redeemed, how many nights you’ve stayed, how many brands you’ve stayed at, etc.

Those who visited the website could request a gift, described as a “complimentary luggage tag set to highlight your status and show that you’re part of the Lifetime Platinum Elite community.”

I did indeed receive that in the mail recently. The tags came in a nondescript black box, and at first I didn’t know what was in there. But when I opened the kit, I could immediately see the Marriott Bonvoy branding.

The box had a panel on each side that could be flipped over — the left panel had a “congratulations” for being a lifetime elite member, while the right panel described the luggage tags.

There were two different luggage tags, and you can find front and back pictures of them below.

Here’s how the tags were described:

When Marriott said that the special gift for lifetime elite members was luggage tags, I had pretty low expectations. I was expecting Marriott would send one or two plastic luggage tags in an envelope. In that sense, both the overall box presentation and the quality of the tags exceeded my expectations.

Now, will I actually put these tags on my bags? No. Back in the day I used to love putting elite luggage tags on my bags, because I thought they were kind of cool, or something. My feelings have changed on that in the past 15+ years, and nowadays I have exactly zero elite tags on any of my bags. I just don’t see the point, and I’m not looking to “brag.”

Marriott Bonvoy has sent a gift of luggage tags to lifetime elite members who requested them. The luggage tags are nicely presented and seem to be pretty high quality, so Marriott did better here than I was expecting.

If you’ve received these Marriott luggage tags, what do you make of them?

How do I request the luggage tags?

They discontinued Lifetime Titanium a few years back -- now it's Lifetime Platinum. The only remaining way to earn Lifetime Titanium is to become a Presidential Level owner at Marriott Vacation Club.

I hope someone responds on how to attach them

Just sent in for mine. I didn’t even know they existed until I stumbled across this article.

I also got these tags! I agree, the preso, packaging and quality are way better than anticipated!

I, however, will use mine as they are simply gorgeous!

I appreciate the effort (also got the black metal membership card), the recognition and the appreciation.

Can't wait to see them, I've been Lifetime Titanium twice over for 10 years now

But I still can't get a breakfast offering

I replied to the questionnaire on the qr code that I would gladly trade my Lifetime Titanium tags for some consistency, honoring elite guarantees, and other benefits that they have promised and properties won't deliver.

they haven't responded.

I received mine this week and yes, it was a great presentation. It’s funny, I’ve had lifetime status for years and only now are they doing this as I think they must’ve hired somebody from Hilton because this is exactly what I received automatically when I reached lifetime diamond with Hilton so it’s almost like they’re just keeping up with the Hilton program.

Too bad so many only complain.I got my Titainium lifetime tags.Thought they were very nice. If you don't like them don't use them but no need to complain.I will have it on my carry on along with six years of American Airlines EP tags.I appreciate Marriott did this.

I am especially proud of my Lifetime Elite status is that it came with a letter from Bill Marriott Jr. Many years ago. I only wished I saved the letter.

Not impressed. Don't use mine. Not sure why I even responded to the email honestly. Hoping for personalization I suppose

I was impressed with the fancy box, but the luggage tags themselves are nothing special. I was expecting to see my name imprinted on the tags themselves, but they are blank. The tags look like something available at TJ Maxx. I really don't see the point of this campaign.

Being Lifetime Platinum Elite I am quite surprised my email invitation has not appeared in my inbox. I tried following the link to the page you provided above but only receive a Page Not Found dead end?!

We’ve all worked to achieve an Elite Status which in and of itself is a great accomplishment. The world has become unbalanced. Emotional Intelligence is just a” corporate catch-phrase”. We should all ponder the value of appreciation when it’s our turn to do so. Ask ourselves are our intentions genuine and authentic? Marriott didn’t have to do this, someone in the corporation thought enough of us to do so.

Can someone explain how to attach them to your luggage?

I am a lifetime silver elite, earned on my own. I am still looking for that travel job. I didn't see where I can request tags, might not be for all lifetime elites.

@ LifeIsShort -- Unfortunately it's just for lifetime Platinum and Titanium members, sorry!

Ben I AM lifetime Platinum Elite but did not receive the email… what now? I AM all about free bling - I earned it…! ;)

I will probably add the colorful one. I put colorful tags to reduce the honest mistakes when people grab the wrong bag.

The best one I have is a red stop sign that says "This isn't your bag".

The thought behind the recognition is appreciated, but in an environment where reducing “waste” is the focus, I was taken aback by the excessive packaging.

Inconsistency of benefits is my biggest challenge every time I check into a Marriott property. While I understand individual brands may have different policies, I don’t know within the same brand why I get different benefits. That said, I am glad to have status.

I think they are great and they are appreciated. Ben you could have thrown them away and it would have prevented you for wasting your time on a write-up.

@ Cbchicago -- I don't view the write-up as wasted time? It's a nice gesture by the company and something that many will appreciate and enjoy.

The packaging appears to have cost more than the actual luggage tags. I didn't find it a very useful gift. Maybe a phone charger or something more useful would have been better.

Lifetime members: “Please can we have our status consistently recognised and rewarded when we stay at Bonvoy hotels?”

Marriott: “Erm… how about some luggage tags?”

My Hilton Honors Lifetime Diamond welcome kit contained:- One all-black Luggage Tag- One set of Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphones- One black metallic Lifetime Diamond membership card

The Bose wireless headphones are, of course, nice because it's top of the line quality and practical...

Can't get a 4:00 checkout or an upgrade but we can give you useless baggage tags. Thanks Marriot

I'm still waiting for my Starwood platinum card that was supposed to be sent in 2018.

These luggage tags cost money to produce and ship. But that cost is still far cheaper than Marriott fixing the breakfast benefit.

@Ben - I thought you were a Lifetime Titanium elite. Your tags indicate otherwise - have you been Bonvoyed?

@ Art_Czar -- Hah, nope, sadly am "just" lifetime Platinum. I was just short of the requirement for lifetime Titanium, sadly.

Or maybe I’m just always Titanium Elite now but am Lifetime Platinum. I can’t tell.

I was Bonvoyed, maybe. I’m Lifetime Titanium Elite. Got this gift package and it’s all “Lifetime Platinum” in that unfolding box. ‍♀️

Perhaps the tags arrived last week. I do not know as I am traveling and staying mostly in Hyatt during last two weeks.

I’m not sure that actually advertising that you’ve been Bonvoyed for a decade is the best plan of action. Otherwise you could rename these the “Glutton For Punishment” tags.

Frankly, I was just surprised to hear it didn't contain a 3D print of a hand giving him the finger.

Eh, too quick to judge, right? Some people acquired their Marriott LT from Starwood stays.

As for the tags, I do not buy this as Marriott's sign of appreciation. If you want to show you appreciate me as a customer, send me something useful. This is just free advertising for Marriott as I believe most LT members show "wealthy" appearance. I'm not going to advertise Marriott, nor put useless stuff on my carry-on that can get stuck somewhere.

Mine arrived last week and I put them on my bags, one next to my TWA Royal Ambassador tag!!!
